This article examines the concepts of syntactic and syntagmatic relations within the framework of word combinations and sentences. Special attention is paid to the sentence as a speech unit characterized by predicativity and its ability to express a relation to reality. Based on E.S. Kubryakova’s theory of atomic predicativity, the study also discusses the presence of implicit predicativity in words and derived units. The paper highlights both common and distinctive features of words, word combinations, and sentences within the language system.
